The Client Funds Entry window allows you to add transactions to the client funds account as well as change or delete existing client funds transactions. Client funds accounts are designed to be used for non-refundable retainers. Other fund types such as trust funds, escrow funds, refundable retainers, etc., can be entered, but using a trust accounting system (such as Tabs3 Trust Accounting (Trust)) is recommended to better comply with state bar recommendations. Deposits, withdrawals and payments to the firm can be entered. Client funds accounts can even be configured to automatically pay current work.

This window can be accessed from the Client Funds list.

Various toolbar buttons are shown at the top of the window allowing you to change how the information is displayed as well as what information is displayed in the window. A list of transactions can optionally be displayed for a Client ID, transaction date, or entry date.

Client Funds Entry List

Note: After selecting a client, the Fund Balance and unbilled fees, expenses, advances and payments will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. Credits and transactions on hold are included in the work-in-process transactions. All transactions are included regardless of date. Transactions on hold are included in the Fund Balance but excluded from the work-in-process figures.

Transactions that have been included on a pre-bill will display with all fields dimmed when opened from outside the Pre-Bill Information window, unless the user has rights to Modify Pre-Bill Transactions Outside of Pre-Bills. Attempting to make changes from outside this window without rights will display a message that the transaction cannot be edited.

Transactions that have been included on a final statement will display with all fields dimmed and cannot be edited. To change any field, you must revert the statement to a pre-bill, then make changes by drilling down to the transaction from the Pre-Bill Information window.
