| Type |
There are multiple Types of transactions:
| Deposit | A Deposit represents a cash payment from the client. Deposits are entered as positive amounts and correspondingly increase the client's Fund Balance. A deposit does not affect the client's accounts receivable balance; it only affects the client's Fund Balance. Negative deposits are not allowed. |
Note: If the client is set up as a One Time Retainer client, then the Amount to Bill is automatically reduced when a deposit is entered (or increased if a negative deposit is entered).

| Credit Card | A Credit Card deposit represents a payment from the client using a credit card. Credit card deposits are entered as positive amounts and correspondingly increase the client's Fund Balance. A credit card deposit does not affect the client's accounts receivable balance; it only affects the client's Fund Balance. Negative credit card deposits are not allowed. |
Note: When the Type of Credit Card is selected, and Tabs3 Billing is configured to allow processing of LexCharge credit card transactions, the LexCharge Credit Card Authorization window will be displayed after the deposit is saved. This window allows you to enter all of the information necessary to process a credit card transaction.
When reviewing a previously saved LexCharge® deposit, the
icon will be displayed to the right of the Type field. Clicking this button will open the Credit Card Transaction window, allowing you to view the transaction details.
Note: When a transaction is entered with a Type of Credit Card, and Tabs3 Billing is not configured to allow processing of credit card transactions, or no merchant account is defined for processing credit cards, the Type is saved as Deposit.
Note: If you select a Type of Credit Card while you have Tabs3 Pay or LawPay integration enabled for client funds deposits, upon saving the deposit you will receive a message asking to confirm that you want to process the deposit using a method other than Tabs3 Pay or LawPay.
If you click Yes, you will either proceed to the LexCharge Credit Card Authorization window (if LexCharge is enabled and configured for client funds deposits) or the payment will be saved without being processed electronically (if LexCharge is not enabled or is not configured for client funds deposits).
If you click No, you will be returned to the client funds entry window without saving the transaction.
| Withdrawal |
A Withdrawal represents a disbursement to a third party. Withdrawals decrease the Fund Balance and are therefore shown on the statement with a minus sign. A withdrawal does not affect the client's accounts receivable balance; it only affects the client's Fund Balance. The withdrawal amount cannot cause the Fund Balance to go below 0.00. Negative withdrawals are not allowed. When adding a Withdrawal transaction, a Withdrawal Options dialog box will be displayed, allowing you to select what will be done with the amount of the withdrawal. |
| Payment to Firm |
A Payment to Firm represents a transfer of funds from the client funds account to pay for current charges being billed (i.e., work-in-process transactions, sales tax, and finance charges) as well as a previous balance. It can be entered manually or configured to occur automatically when a statement is generated. A manual Payment to Firm is entered as a positive amount. Besides reducing the client funds account, a Payment to Firm will generate a linked payment record transaction with the same amount. When using a Fund Application of WIP Payment, a Payment Entry is created. When any other Fund Application is selected, an archived payment record will be created when the statement that includes the Payment to Firm is updated. |
Note: A payment entry created by a Payment to Firm transaction is linked; deleting the payment entry will change the Fund Application of the client funds transaction from WIP Payment to Apply to All. A message will be displayed to indicate that the linked client funds transaction was not deleted. The client funds transaction cannot be deleted when a linked payment transaction exists.
Note: The default Type depends on the Fund Application specified for the client. Clients with an Automatic Fund Application will default to a Deposit. Clients with a Manual Fund Application will default to a Payment to Firm.
GL Integration Note: If integrating with Tabs3 General Ledger (GL), journal entries are generated for deposits, credit card deposits, withdrawals, and payments to firm configured in GLS Integration Setup.
