A page layout is a collection of Statement Designer elements used to customize the appearance of one or more pages of a Tabs3 billing statement. Each page layout can have its own margins, fields, and other elements. Existing page layouts can be used as background pages for new page layouts, making it easy to quickly create multiple page layouts that share common elements such as page number, Client ID, statement date, etc.

Statements in Tabs3 consist of up to four distinct parts: the first page, all subsequent pages, the optional cover statement, and the optional envelope. For each of these statement parts, a separate page layout can optionally be configured on the Layouts tab of Statement Templates. A page layout can be used more than once per statement template.

The name assigned to a page layout generally has no effect beyond reminding you what purpose the page layout was originally intended to serve. With the exception of envelope layouts, any page layout can be assigned for use with any statement part. Only envelope layouts can be assigned for use in printing envelopes.

For example, the first time you use Statement Designer, four page layouts are assigned to a layout group called "New Layout Group". The default names of these empty page layouts are as follows: "Page 1", "Page 2", "Cover Statement" and "Envelope". If desired, a page layout named "Page 1" could be assigned for use with the cover statement on a statement template as easily as for use with the first page.

Tip: If you create a layout group named "Default Group" that contains page layouts named "Page 1", "Page 2" and/or "Envelope", then when printing statements with the Enable Statement Designer Layouts check box selected, the page layouts from the "Default Group" layout group will be used for the corresponding parts of the statement any time the statement template does not have a valid page layout assigned to one of those parts. For example, if the statement template has no page layout or an invalid page layout assigned in the Page 1 field, the page layout named "Page 1" from the "Default Group" layout group will be used for the first page of the statement.

Tip: To rearrange the order of page layouts, simply click a page layout and, while holding down the left mouse button, drag the page layout to the desired location in the Layout Tree. Release the mouse button when the page layout is in the desired location. You can even drag a page layout to a different layout group. This makes it easy to control which page layouts belong to which layout groups.
