The Write-Up/Write-Down Fees and Costs utility allows you to write-up or write-down total unbilled fees, costs, or hours for a client for a range of timekeepers, transaction codes, categories or dates for a client prior to billing. Write-ups/write-downs can be adjusted to a specified amount or by a specified percentage. When you choose to write-up or write-down fees, you will be allowed to write-up or write-down the number of hours to bill as well. You can write-up or write-down a single matter, or optionally write-up or write-down all matters for a client at the same time.
Note: Make a backup before running this utility. Once a write-up or write-down has been performed, you cannot reverse the process unless you restore from a backup. You will be given the opportunity to make a temporary backup immediately after selecting this utility.
Include All Matters for this Client
The OK button will adjust the work-in-process as specified in the Amount Adjustment Type and Hours Adjustment Type sections. You will be asked to confirm that you want to perform the update.
Upon completion of the write-up or write-down, the message "Write-Up/Write-Down task completed." will be displayed.
The Cancel button can be used to close the Write-Up/Write-Down window. If write-ups or write-downs have been performed, you will be asked if you want to generate a verification list. If there were GL posting errors encountered during the update process, you will also be able to print a GLS Error Report.
Note: When writing multiple transactions up or down, each affected transaction's amount and/or hours is adjusted by an amount proportional to the total adjustment. For example, when writing down a group of transactions totaling $1000 to $750, each individual transaction amount would be reduced by 25%. Additional information can be found in the Notes about the Write-Up/Write Down Utility.
Note: Amounts and hours are written up or down separately. To write up or down both amounts and hours simultaneously, populate the New Total/Percentage field in both sections.
Note: Examples with values of zero can be found in the Notes about the Write-Up/Write-Down Utility. Examples with values other than zero can be found in the Write-Up/Write-Down Overview.
Note: Do not confuse this utility with the Write Off Client utility which is used after transactions have been billed.
GL Note: Adjusting GL journal entries are automatically created when costs entered using Tabs3 Billing are written up or down.
AP Note: Changing advance cost entries in Tabs3 Billing that were entered via AP when you are integrated with GL will create adjusting journal entries using the accounts defined in the GLS Accounts Table for Advanced Client Costs Write Offs and Write-Downs. For unposted invoices, these are shown on the General Ledger tab of the Invoice/Manual Check Entry window in AP and will be made in GL when the invoice is posted.
