When a statement is billed, Tabs3 can automatically withdraw funds from the Client Fund Balance of clients, depending on their Fund Application setting. These Payments to Firm are included on the statement to offset the current charges being billed (i.e., work-in-process transactions, sales tax, and finance charges), and cannot apply to a previous balance.

Note: When adding a new client or matter, this field defaults to the value specified on the Client Defaults tab of the Customization window.

The Fund Application indicates whether the payment to the firm will be generated automatically. If generated automatically, this field also indicates what kind of work-in-process will be paid from the client funds account.

Manual

This option indicates Tabs3 will not automatically generate the payment to the firm. Payments to Firm must be entered manually using the Client Funds file in order to transfer funds to the client's accounts receivable balance.

Note: Manual Client Funds payments can be used to created linked WIP Payments, which can apply to previous balances.

Automatic Fee This option indicates Tabs3 will automatically generate the payment to the firm for the amount of fees on the statement (fees + fee sales tax + finance charge) and post a payment to the client's account. The payment transaction code is the one specified for Fee under Client Funds Automatic Payment Tcodes in Customization.
Automatic Cost This option indicates Tabs3 will automatically generate payments to the firm for the amount of expenses (expenses + expense sales tax + finance charge) and advances (advances + advance sales tax + finance charge) on the statement and post these payments to the client's account. The payment transaction codes are specified for Exp and Adv under Client Funds Automatic Payment Tcodes in Customization.
Automatic Exp This option indicates Tabs3 will automatically generate the payment to the firm for the amount of expenses on the statement (expenses + expense sales tax + finance charge) and post a payment to the client's account. The payment transaction code is the one specified for Exp under Client Funds Automatic Payment Tcodes in Customization.
Automatic Adv This option indicates Tabs3 will automatically generate the payment to the firm for the amount of advances on the statement (advances + advance sales tax + finance charge) and post a payment to the client's account. The payment transaction code is the one specified for Adv under Client Funds Automatic Payment Tcodes in Customization.
Automatic All This option indicates Tabs3 will automatically generate the payment to the firm for all amounts on the statement (fees + fee sales tax + expenses + expense sales tax + advances + advance sales tax + finance charge) and post a payment to the client's account. The payment transaction code is the one specified for All under Client Funds Automatic Payment Tcodes in Customization.

Note: Automatic Payments to Firm use the description predefined for the transaction code specified in Customization whereas manual Payments to Firm use the description entered when the Payment to Firm is entered. If no automatic payment tcode is specified, a standard description ("Client Funds Payment.") will be used and no GLS integration will occur. (The "Client" in the standard "Client Funds Payment" description will be replaced with whatever terminology is specified for the Client Key Label on the Main tab of Customization.)

Note: Because Automatic Payments to Firm are generated at the time a statement is run and updated, this type of payment is not shown in the Payment file.

Note: The Fund Application field cannot be changed if a final statement has been run but not updated. You must either update the statement or unbill the statement before this field can be changed.

Trust Note: Clients that are configured to use automatic trust payments in Tabs3 Trust Accounting (Trust) cannot be configured with an automatic Fund Application setting. To change where payments are automatically applied from, the other application method must first be disabled.
