Automatic Payment Overview

Once the autopay settings have been saved, an automatic payment will be scheduled when a final statement is generated. The scheduled payment will be added to the Tabs3 Pay Web Portal. When the automatic payment is processed on the specified date, it will be added to the Import Online Payments window in Tabs3  Billing. From there, you can import the Tabs3 Pay payment and create a corresponding Tabs3 Billing payment or Trust deposit).

Note: Automatic payments are scheduled per statement. If a client with multiple matters is configured to Enable Autopay with the same payment method, but the Combine Matters check box is not selected, separate payments will be scheduled for each matter. Note that multiple charges to the same payment method in a short period can cause transactions to be flagged or denied; therefore, it is strongly recommended that clients with multiple matters be combined when using Autopay.

A payment of $1,000 using Visa - 1234 will automatically be applied on 10/13/2026.

Terminology: The automatic payment terminology is configured on Line 78 of Statement Terminology.

Tabs3 Pay Autopay Summary: The Tabs3 Pay Autopay Summary is created when final statements are generated (provided that the Statement Run Totals option was selected for the statement run). The report will be printed at the end of the final statement run. This report includes a list of each client who had an automatic payment scheduled during the final statement run (including auto-replenish payments for trust accounts) as well as a total amount for automatic payments scheduled during the final statement run.

Note: When Autopay is enabled, a warning will be displayed when generating a final statement if the Statement Designer layout contains a Payment QR Code field, or the Email Template contains an Online Payment URL field. This is to prevent a client from making a payment when an Autopay is already scheduled.

If an additional payment is needed, such as if the current work on a statement exceeds the maximum amount of the Autopay, clients can submit these payments using the Client Portal.
