The Tabs3 Pay tab allows you to enable or disable Tabs3 Pay® electronic payment processing in Tabs3 Billing, and to define Merchant Accounts for use in payment processing. Once enabled, credit card and bank account (ACH) payments can be processed using the Payment Entry or Client Funds Entry windows, or by including Payment Links with your statements.
To sign up for a Tabs3 Pay merchant account, click the Learn More button to open the Tabs3 Pay Signup window. After you have signed up, Tabs3 Pay will be enabled automatically once your application has been approved.
If you signed up for Tabs3 Pay in Version 2026 (Build 26.1.19) or prior and need to re-link your Tabs3 Pay account, click the I already have a Tabs3 Pay account link to enter your Tabs3 Pay API key and enable Tabs3 Pay. See Knowledge Base Article R11869, “Configuring Tabs3 Pay,” for steps to obtain the API Key from your Tabs3 Pay account. If you signed up for Tabs3 Pay in Version 2026 (Build 26.1.20) or later and need to relink your Tabs3 Pay account, contact Tabs3 Support for assistance.
Note: Tabs3 Pay and LawPay cannot be enabled at the same time. Enabling Tabs3 Pay will automatically disable LawPay.
Click the Disable Tabs3 Pay button to disable Tabs3 Pay in Tabs3 Billing. A Disable Tabs3 Pay window will be displayed.
Note: If you have unused Tabs3 Pay online payment links, Tabs3 Pay must remain enabled in order for the Import Online Payments program to download online payments made via Tabs3 Pay. Once all of your existing payment links have been paid, you can safely disable Tabs3 Pay.

Merchant Account Configuration
There are two options for configuring Tabs3 Pay merchant accounts: Simple Mode and Advanced Mode. If you want to use a single Tabs3 Pay merchant account for the entire firm, Simple Mode will allow you to select a Tabs3 Pay merchant account for that purpose. If you want to configure multiple merchant accounts and assign them to timekeepers or locations, then you must use Advanced Mode. You can toggle between these modes by clicking the Switch to Advanced Mode / Switch to Simple Mode buttons.
Note: You cannot switch to Simple Mode if any merchant accounts other than a firm-level merchant account have been configured.
|
Simple Mode |
Select the Tabs3 Pay account you want to use as your firm’s merchant account in the Tabs3 Pay Bank Account field. |
|
Advanced Mode |
In Advanced Mode, all of the merchant accounts that have been configured in Tabs3 Billing are displayed. To add a new merchant account, click the Add button to open the Tabs3 Pay Account Setup window. To modify an existing merchant account, select the account and then click the Edit button to open the Tabs3 Pay Account Setup window. To remove an existing merchant account, select the account and then click the Remove button. A window will be displayed prompting you to confirm that you want to delete the selected account. Click Yes to delete the account or click No to retain the account. |
Warning: The same Merchant Account configuration is used for both Tabs3 Payments and Client Funds transactions. Therefore, be aware that deposits will be made to the same bank account for both types of transactions.
Accepting credit cards for Client Funds Deposits in Tabs3 Billing is designed for use with non-refundable amounts. We recommend using Tabs3 Trust Accounting (Trust) if you need to accept credit card transactions for client trust accounts.
Note: This feature is not available with Trial software, software with a demo serial number, or when using the sample data provided with Tabs3 Billing.
