The Client Lookup window consists of two areas: a list of records and an optional SnapShot panel.

The Client Lookup window includes the following columns in the list area: Client ID, Name Search, Client Name, Work Description and Primary Timekeeper number.

You can change the sorting order of the records by clicking a column heading. An ascending sort indicator will be shown in the column heading indicating the sorting order. Clicking the same column heading again will reverse the sort order and change the sort indicator to a descending sort indicator. Once a primary sort is selected, the secondary sort is as follows:

Recent The Recent check box in the Client Lookup window lists the last 20 clients accessed by the workstation. The most recently accessed client is at the top of the list. Whenever a client is added, edited or a transaction is entered for a client, the Client ID is saved in the STI.INI file.

Note: When the Recent check box is selected, column sorting is not available.

Show Inactive The Show Inactive check box determines whether inactive clients are included in the list of clients. Inactive clients are shown in the list with parentheses around the Client ID [i.e., (103.002)]. Select this box if you want inactive clients included. Clear this check box if you want inactive clients excluded from the list.

Secure clients are not shown in the Client Lookup window unless the user has manager rights or has been assigned secure rights to the client.

Incremental Search

Incremental searches can be performed based on Client or Name Search when records are sorted in Client or Name Search order. After typing a letter or number, a small Incremental Search window will be displayed allowing you to type one or more characters. As each character is typed, the list advances to the first record with that character. When focus is on a record in the list, begin typing what you want to search for. The incremental search window will automatically open.

Note: The Incremental Search is not available when filtering is enabled.

Filtering Clients

The Filter button can be used to filter the clients shown in the Client Lookup window based on the information in their Work Description and Name fields. This allows you to search for a specific client or matter based on information in the Work Description or Name field. The entire Work Description and Name fields are searched; not just the first characters of the fields. Searching is case insensitive.

You can filter all clients in Tabs3 or all matters for a specific client.

Once the Filter button has been clicked, the Client Lookup window is redrawn with the filter options shown at the top of the window.

Filter Text Maximum of 50 characters. Enter the text you want used for filtering clients. Only clients with the specified text in their Work Description or Name fields will be shown in the list.
Show All Clients Indicates whether all clients will be included in the filtering process. Select this check box if you want all clients' Work Descriptions and Names searched for the specified text. Clear this check box if you only want the matters for the current client included in the filtering.

Note: The Show All Clients check box is only available when sorting by Client ID.

Current Client

Indicates which client's matters will be filtered for the specified Filter Text. This information is dimmed if the Show All Clients check box is selected.

The Current Client is selected by 1) specifying the client before opening the Client Lookup window; or 2) by highlighting any matter for the client in the Client Lookup window and then clicking the Filter button.

The filter indicator shows the status of the filtering.

Ready The indicator has a green background and indicates the filtering has completed and/or is ready to accept a different Filter Text for additional filtering.
Waiting The indicator has a yellow background and indicates Tabs3 is waiting for you to enter additional characters in the Filter Text field.
Searching The indicator has a red background and indicates that Tabs3 is performing the filtering process.
