| Split Cost Options |
The Split Cost Options section on the Split Billing tab allows you to specify how costs are split between matters. Costs can be split after calculating the amount based on the main client's rate, or you can choose to split the units and calculate the amount based on each split matter's individual rate. Additionally, you can specify whether to split cost credits as well as non-billable and zero amount costs among the matters.
| Split both Units and Amount | Select Split both Units and Amount if you want to split the cost amounts after they have been calculated based on the main client's rate. |
| Split Units and then calculate Amount | Select Split Units then calculate Amount if you want to split the cost amounts before they have been calculated. Each split matter's split cost amounts will be based on their cost rate table rather than the main client's. |

Notes:
| Split Cost Credits | Select the Split Cost Credits check box if you want to split cost credits among split matters. Clear the Split Cost Credits check box if you want to only apply cost credits to the main client. |
Note: When the Split Cost Credits option is enabled, cost credits are treated exactly like standard costs by the Perform Split Billing process. For example, if the expense allocation percentages or advance allocation percentages for a client are greater than 100%, when the credit is split, the total credits will be higher than the original. Similarly, if the Split Units and then calculate Amount option is enabled and the cost credit is based on the main client's unit rate, the total credits will be greater than the original if the split matters use a higher rate. |
| Split Non-Billable and Zero Amount Costs | Select the Split Non-Billable and Zero Amount Costs check box if you want to split non-billable costs and costs with an amount of $0.00 among matters. Clear the Split Non-Billable and Zero Amount Costs check box if you want to only apply these costs to the main client. |
Note: When this option is enabled along with the Split Units and then calculate Amount option, a cost transaction with a Units value, but a rate of 0.00 on the main client will generate a split cost with an amount greater than zero for the split matter if the split matter's rate for that tcode is greater than $0.00. |
