The Background 1 and Background 2 fields each let you specify an existing page layout to be used as the background page for the current page layout. You can even specify page layouts that include their own background pages. In this way, multiple page layouts can be combined. Click the drop-down button and select the page layout to be used as the background page.

Note: If both fields are used, elements that are part of the page layout specified in the Background 1 field take precedence over elements from the page layout specified in the Background 2 field. For example, if both background pages include an element that touches the same location on the page layout (i.e., if elements from the two background pages intersect), the intersecting element from the Background 1 page layout will be rendered in whole, and the element from the Background 2 page layout will be partially or completely hidden behind the element from the Background 1 page layout. If this occurs, selecting the Display | Background Preview option on the right-click menu makes it easy to see how the page layout will appear when printing statements.

Note: Elements from the current page layout always take precedence over any background elements.
