The Cover Statement option determines whether a cover statement will be printed, whether the matter will have its own individual cover statement printed and whether a detail or summary format will be used. The Cover Statement option works in conjunction with the Main Cover Client feature. The Main Cover Client feature is used to determine which matter's address prints on the cover statement and which matter's cover statement format is used.

Tabs3 Billing uses the portion of the Client ID to the left of the decimal in checking for cover statements. For example, Client IDs 100.01 and 100.02 are considered to be two different matters for the same client.

The available Cover Statement options consist of Detail, Summary, Individual Detail, Individual Summary or None.

Detail The detail option prints a cover statement including client work description, miscellaneous lines, previous balance, fees, costs, payments and balance for each matter along with grand totals for the client.
Summary The summary option prints a cover statement including the client work description, miscellaneous lines and balance due for each matter along with grand totals for the client.
Individual Detail The Individual Detail option prints a detail cover statement for the specified matter including client work description, miscellaneous lines, previous balance, fees, costs, payments and balance. No other matters will appear on the cover statement. This matter will not appear on any other cover statement. If this option is specified, the Combine Matters and Main Cover Client options are unavailable for the matter.
Individual Summary The Individual Summary option prints a summary cover statement for the specified matter including the client work description, miscellaneous lines and balance due for each matter along with grand totals. No other matters will appear on the cover statement. This matter will not appear on any other cover statement. If this option is specified, the Combine Matters and Main Cover Client options are unavailable for the matter.
None No cover statement is generated for the matter.

Note: When an option other than None is selected, a cover statement will print for both draft and final statements.

Note: You can select the Cover Statements check box in Generate Statements if you want to include cover statements in your statements run, or clear the check box if you do not want to include cover statements.

Statement Designer Note: When the client work description is included in the statement designer layout being used, the work description(s) will not appear in the body of the cover statement.

Email PDF Note: When emailing statements, if you want a single PDF file for a matter and its cover statement, you must select the Combine Matters option. Additionally, the cover statement option must be set to either Detail or Summary. If Individual Detail or Individual Summary is selected, the Combine Matters setting is ignored.
