Let's say we have client 1400.000 who has matters 1400.000, 1400.001, 1400.002 and 1400.003. We are running a statement for client 1400 that includes matters 1400.001, 1400.002 and 1400.003. All matters have the Cover Statement option set to Detail.

Example 1 Client 1400.000 is the only matter that has its Main Cover Client check box selected. The address for client 1400.000 will be used on the cover statement even though client 1400.000 is not included on the statement.
Example 2 Client 1400.002 is the only matter that has the Main Cover Client check box selected. The address for client 1400.002 will be used on the cover statement because it is the first matter with the Main Cover Client check box selected.
Example 3 No clients have the Main Cover Client check box selected. The address for client 1400.003 will be used because it is the last client printed.
Example 4 All clients have the Main Cover Client check box selected (1400.000, 1400.001, 1400.002, 1400.003). The address for client 1400.000 will be used on the cover statement because it is the first matter with the Main Cover Client check box selected.
Example 5

Let's say we are running a statement for client 1400.003 only. Let's say client 1400.001 and 1400.002 are the only matters that have the Main Cover Client check box selected. The address for client 1400.001 will be used on the cover statement because it is the first matter with the Main Cover Client check box selected.

Let's say we have client 444.00 who has matters 444.01, 444.02, and 444.03. We are running a statement for client 444 that includes all matters.

Example 6 File 444.01 has a Cover Statement of Detail, 444.02 has a Cover Statement of Summary and 444.03 has a Cover Statement of Individual Detail. File 444.02 has its Main Cover Client check box selected. When statements are run for client 444, a combined cover statement with matters 444.01 and 444.02 will be printed as well as a cover statement for matter 444.03. The cover statement for 444.01 and 444.02 will use the address from 444.02 and a summary format because 444.02 is the Main Cover Client. The cover statement for 444.03 will use the address and format from 444.03 because the Cover Statement is Individual Detail.

Note: Example 6 is not typical of how matters would be set up; it is included for example purposes only. Typically, all matters are set up using the same Cover Statement option.
