The Reindex Files program is used to recreate the index files used by Tabs3 to locate the position of specific records within the data file. This program is typically used only after certain errors have been encountered by the Data File Integrity Check or Archive Integrity Check programs or to reset work-in-process reference numbers.

Caution: Before using the Reindex Files program, make a backup. If the Reindex Files process is interrupted for any reason you must restore from the backup. You will be given the opportunity to make a temporary backup immediately after selecting this program.

The Reindex Files program includes the following options:

Files to Reindex

Reindex All Files

Reindex Specific Files

Compact Selected Files

Delete records that contain errors

The OK button can be used to begin the Reindex Files process. Progress meters are displayed showing the status of the reindex process.

The Cancel button can be used to close the Reindex Files window. If you click the Cancel button while the Reindex Files program is running, the program will complete the file it is reindexing and then safely abort the process.

Note: If data files have been corrupted prior to running the Reindex Files program, you may see a message displayed at the completion of the process indicating that errors have been found. If errors were found, the Print dialog box will be displayed allowing you to print an Error Report. This report will contain information about the errors that may be useful to the Technical Support Department. The Error Report is also saved to a disk file named T3REORG.LOG. This file can be opened with a text editor if necessary. This file is deleted and recreated the next time the Tabs3 Reindex Files program is selected.
