Maximum of 50 characters. Enter individuals using the Last Name/First Name format. This field in the Client file is used to specify the person to contact on behalf of the client.

When entering a new client, by default:

When specifying a contact, this field will autofill from a list of existing Contact IDs based on the characters entered. If a new contact is entered, completing this field will open a new Contact window allowing you to enter the contact information for the new contact and confirm whether the contact is an individual or an organization.

Use of the Contact Name in the Attention line of statements is controlled by the client's Bill To record. To select whether the Contact Name will be printed on the Attention line of statements, select the Billing Preferences tab and double-click the first record in the Statement Delivery Options table. This will open the Bill To Record window, where you can select or clear the Include Attention line on statement check box and specify what will be printed in the Attention line. By default, this check box is selected for clients whose Client Name does not match the Contact Name, typically organizations. It is cleared for clients whose Client Name matches the Contact Name.

If the Contact Name is entered with a "/" character in the name, the Full Name field in the Contact file is automatically filled in with the client's name in First Name Last Name format. The contents of the Full Name field in the Contact file can be changed without changing the Contact Name. If a new contact is entered without a "/" character, this field is automatically filled in with the Contact Name. It is recommended that an individual be listed in the Contact Name field using the Last Name/First Name format.

Note: Be sure to use the correct slash ("/") character. Otherwise, if a "\" character is entered, the software will not reverse the name for the Full Name field.

Secure Client Note: Contact records cannot be marked as secure. Therefore, to ensure that a Contact record is not created for a new secure client, select the Secure Client check box before entering the Contact Name. Otherwise, if you select this check box after creating the contact, you must delete the Contact records for the client if you do not want the contact information available for all users.

Note: If you enter a Contact Name that begins with an asterisk (*), the Asterisk Change Notification window will be displayed letting you know that placing an asterisk in the first character position no longer affects functionality in Tabs3.
