| Asterisk Change Notification |
The Asterisk Change Notification message is displayed when a Contact Name is entered with an asterisk (*) in the first character position.
In prior versions of Tabs3 Billing, an asterisk was used in the first character position to prevent the Contact Name from printing in the Attn: line of the client's mailing address on the billing statement. This functionality is now controlled by a setting in the Bill To Record window. In the Client file, remove the asterisk from the Contact Name field and continue entering the contact information in the Contact file.
To remove the asterisk from the Contact Name field
- Click OK to close this message.
- Click
to cancel the new Contact record that uses an asterisk in the Contact ID field. - Click No when asked if you want to save changes.
- In the Client file, remove the asterisk from the Contact Name field.
- Press the Tab key.
- Enter any remaining information and press Ctrl+S to save the contact.
Attention Line in the Bill To Record Window
The Default Bill To record is always the first record listed in the Statement Delivery Options table on the Billing Preferences tab of the Client file. It is created when a new client or matter is saved. Double-click the Default Bill To record (or highlight the record and click Edit) to open the Bill To Record window.
In the Statement Address group of the Bill To Record window is the Include Attention line on statement check box. Select this check box if you want to include an Attention line on the statement that is sent to this contact. By default, this check box is selected for clients whose Client Name does not match the Contact Name, typically organizations. It is cleared for clients whose Client Name matches the Contact Name.
If selected, you must select whether the attention line will reference the Matter's Contact Name or a different value that you can specify in the Other field.
| Matter's Contact Name | Select Matter's Contact Name if you want the Contact Name field from the Address tab of the Client file to be used. |
| Other | Select Other if you want to enter text in this field to be used in the Attention line. For example, a client may want you to specify to the attention of "Accounts Payable". |
Note: The "Attn:" text is controlled by Line 2 on the Terminology tab of Statement Customization.
