The Contact ID represents a unique identifier used to store and retrieve information for a specific contact. The Contact ID can use alphanumeric characters. The Contact ID is a key field that determines the order in which the records are indexed for searching and sorting purposes.

The "/" character determines the default setting for the contact Individual/Organization selector. If a Contact ID is entered with a "/" character in the name, the Individual/Organization selector will default to Individual. If a Contact ID is entered without a "/" character in the name, the Individual/Organization selector will default to Organization. This setting can be changed by selecting the desired option in the Contact window.
