| Transaction Code |
This field will only be available for Activity and Expense codes (i.e., task codes that start with "A", "X", or "E"). This field is required for all Activity and Expense codes. Activity codes are used during fee entry and Expense codes are used during cost entry.
Activity Codes
When adding fee transactions for non-task based billing clients, the transaction code specified for the transaction determines the default rate, amount and bill code and whether the transaction is taxable. Additionally, when fee transactions are final billed and updated, Tabs3 tracks the hours and amounts billed for each fee transaction code. This information is then used by the Productivity Report By Transaction Code for each Timekeeper. However, when adding fees for task based billing clients, the Activity code is entered in lieu of a transaction code. Therefore, the transaction code specified here determines the defaults used during data entry and the transaction code for task based billing clients.
Enter the desired transaction code. Only Type 0 (normal) and Type 5 (miscellaneous) fee, expense, or advance transaction codes will be accepted.
The
button can be used to open the Tcode
Lookup window that allows you to view a list of transaction codes and select a transaction code by
double-clicking it.
Tip: If you want to maintain separate productivity totals for each Activity code, you can set up separate transaction codes and assign them to each of your Activity codes. Or, you can maintain all task based billing productivity under a single existing transaction code. The way you set it up depends on how much detail your firm requires for the Productivity Report By Transaction Code for each Timekeeper.
Expense Codes
When adding cost transactions for non-task based billing clients, the transaction code specified for the transaction determines whether the transaction is an expense or an advance, the Cost Type, the default rate, amount and bill code, whether the transaction is taxable, whether GLS journal entries will be created, and the default GLS account and journal numbers. However, when adding costs for task based billing clients, the Expense code is entered in lieu of a transaction code. Therefore, the transaction code specified here determines the defaults used during data entry for task based billing clients.
Enter the desired transaction code. Only Type 0 (normal) and Type 5 (miscellaneous) expense or advance transaction codes will be accepted.
Note: Fee transaction codes cannot be used in the Cost Entry program, therefore they cannot be assigned to expense codes.
