The Journal Entry section of the QuickBooks General Journal Entry window contains the following fields.

Account Select the desired QuickBooks account that you want the journal entry posted to. You can type the first few letters of the account or select it from the drop-down list. The Up-Arrow and Down-Arrow keys can be used to display the next account in the list. The default account is the account specified for the transaction code. If no account has been specified for the transaction code, then the default account is blank.

Payment Note: Some firms will use an Undeposited Funds asset account instead of the Cash account for the QuickBooks Debit Acct when posting payments. A deposit slip is then created in QuickBooks, which posts the funds from the Undeposited Funds account to the Cash account.

Debit/Credit Specify whether the journal entry posted will be a debit or a credit. You can type "D" or "C" to select Debit or Credit respectively.
Amount Specify the amount of the journal entry. The default Amount for the first journal entry will default to the amount of the cost/payment transaction. Subsequent journal entries for the same transaction will default to the Amount from the previous journal entry.

Note: The Amount cannot be 0.00.

Note: You can use the Apply Balance button to automatically enter the amount shown in the Balance at the top of the QuickBooks General Journal Entry window to the Amount field. This button is typically used after the initial journal entry has been saved for a payment transaction.

Description The description for the first journal entry for the transaction will default to the description used for the Tabs3 payment transaction. Subsequent journal entries for the same transaction will default to the description from the previous journal entry.

Note: Any description following a hard carriage return will not be imported into QuickBooks (even though it is shown in this window).

Note: Rich text formatting characters can not be used in the description and will be stripped from the description when it is saved.
