| Sort By Group |
The Sort By group in the Quick Clicks pane lists all permanent and temporary indexes for the file you are viewing. Detailed information on permanent and temporary indexes can be found in the Index Overview topic.
An index listed in the Sort By group can be enabled simply by clicking it. A or icon to the left of an index indicates the index as being currently enabled. The icon signifies an ascending sort order. The icon signifies a descending sort order. Clicking an index that is enabled will toggle between the ascending and descending sort orders. You can also change the sort order by clicking a column heading in the List window. An ascending
sort indicator will be shown in the column heading indicating the sort order. Clicking the same column heading again will reverse the sort order and change the sort indicator to a descending
sort indicator.
Clicking on a column heading in a List window will also update the indexes shown in the Sort By group. Temporary indexes are indicated by an asterisk in front of their name.
Note: Indexes can be reordered and organized in folders if desired. You can hide and unhide items and folders; add, rename, and delete folders; change the order of the items, folders, and groups; and perform other tasks by clicking the Manage Quick Clicks icon in the Customize Current View group. The Sort By group is hidden by default.
Note: When sorting using a temporary index, records added by other users will not be displayed until all instances of the file on the affected user's workstation are closed and reopened, or when switched to sorting by a permanent index. This is because temporary indexes are built using the existing records.
Note: Permanent indexes are preconfigured and cannot be added, changed, or deleted.
