The Task Based Billing Budget window is available only when the Task Based Billing Client check box is selected on the Setup tab of the Client Information window for the current client.
This window can be accessed from the Client Information window by clicking the Task Based Billing Budget button on the Budget tab, or from the Matter Manager by clicking the Edit Task Based Billing Budget link in the Other Actions section of the Take Action pane. This window allows you to specify budget amounts for both Activities (fees) and Expenses (costs) for each task. Budget amounts can be entered for a phase or tasks within a phase but not both.
Budgeted amounts are used for the Task Code Budget Report and when fee and cost transactions are entered. When a client's Warn if Budget Exceeded check box is selected, a warning will be displayed whenever a fee or cost transaction is entered that causes the total for that task code to exceed the budget amount. The warning is displayed as soon as the amount is specified but before the transaction is saved. However, Tabs3 does not prevent you from saving the transaction.
The Save Record button saves the budget information entered for the Phase/Task, Activity Amount and Expense Amount to the list shown in the lower portion of the window.
The Delete Record button deletes the highlighted record shown in the lower portion of the window.
The OK button saves any changes and closes the window.
The Cancel button closes the window without saving any changes. Any changes that were made using the Save Record button are also canceled.
Note: Although this window allows you to specify budget figures for all phases and all tasks, the Fee and Cost Entry windows allow transactions to be entered using only the phases and tasks associated with the task code set (i.e., provided a task code set is assigned to the category specified for the client).
