| Receipt Allocation by Invoice |
Receipts can be allocated in Tabs3 Billing based on total amounts billed for the client or based on total amounts by invoice for the client. The Receipt Allocation by Invoice check box indicates how fees are allocated amongst working timekeepers and how expenses and advances are allocated amongst their associated Cost Types. This option is used when a partial payment is entered and the client has amounts due from more than one invoice.
This billing statement option also determines whether due figures for each timekeeper and cost type are maintained for each invoice.
Note: Although due figures are not maintained for each invoice unless this option is selected, billed figures for each timekeeper and cost type are maintained for each invoice regardless of how this option is set.
Caution: This option cannot be changed once the client has a payment, write off, or credit applied to a balance. Therefore, it is critical that this option be set correctly prior to payments, write offs, or credits being applied.
Select this check box if you want payments allocated based on a percentage basis of the amount due by individual invoice. Due figures for each timekeeper and cost type by invoice will be maintained. We recommend selecting the Receipt Allocation by Invoice check box.
Clear this check box if you want payments allocated based on a percentage basis of the total amount due for the client. Due figures for each timekeeper and cost type by invoice will not be maintained.
Important: Clearing the Receipt Allocation by Invoice check box will display a message noting that this is not recommended. The ability to clear this check box is available to support legacy matters and will remove some Tabs3 Billing functionality. Therefore, this setting should not be changed unless it is absolutely necessary. Click Yes to clear the Receipt Allocation by Invoice check box, or click No to cancel this change.
The default receipt allocation by invoice status for new clients and matters is configured on the Client Defaults tab of Customization. By default, the Receipt Allocation by Invoice check box is selected.
Note: Fee compensation rules that include a statement date range can only be defined for clients whose Receipt Allocation by Invoice check box is selected.
Note: Changing this option in Customization only affects new clients. Existing clients are not affected.
