The Non-billable check box indicates whether the client is billable or non-billable. Reports can be generated with or without non-billable clients.

Clear this check box if you want to designate the client as a billable client. This gives you the ability to add both billable and non-billable transactions to work-in-process for this client.

Select this check box if you want to designate the client as a non-billable client. This gives you the ability to add only non-billable transactions. Designating a client as a non-billable client makes it easy to prevent accidental entering of billable transactions to the client. One example of why you would define a non-billable client is for internal use to keep track of non-billable time, such as vacation time, continuing education, etc. (Note: Clients who are used in split billing cannot be changed to a non-billable status.)

The default non-billable status for new clients is configured on the Client Defaults tab of Customization.

Note: Payments can be entered for non-billable clients.

Note: When a client is set up as a non-billable client, then only non-billable transactions are allowed (Bill Code = 1 or 2). When entering a transaction that has a billable Bill Code (i.e., Bill Code = 0, 3 or 4) for a non-billable client, the Bill Code will automatically be changed to non-billable.

Trust Integration Note: Trust payments to firm cannot be created for non-billable clients. In order to create payments to firm, the Non-billable check box must be cleared.
