The Email Identification section of the Email Templates window allows you to assign a From Name, From Address, and Reply To Address to the email template. These values will be used when email messages are generated for clients using this template.

From Name

Maximum of 50 characters. The From Name field is used to specify the text you want displayed for the From field in the email. For example, you may want the firm's name instead of the attorney's name used for the email.

When configured to send email statements via Microsoft Outlook, this name will be displayed following the active Outlook profile's email address and the text "On behalf of".

Note: When configured to send email statements via Microsoft Outlook, if you are sending email statements using an Exchange server, the From Name will be replaced with the Display Name associated with the email address used to send the statements.

From Address

Maximum of 100 characters. The From Address field is used to specify the email address from which you want the email to be sent. When sending via Outlook, this address will be displayed after the From Name in the "On behalf of" section of the From field. For example, you may want the general firm email address used for the email address instead of the attorney's email address.

This field is a required field. Using an invalid email address in this field may cause errors when sending email, depending on your email server configuration.

Note: Some SMTP servers require that the From Address match the Account Name entered in the Outgoing Email Configuration window in System Configuration. Others will ignore the From Address and instead use the Account Name to prevent fraud. Contact your Network Administrator, Internet Service Provider (ISP), or view the Help included with your selected email service (such as Gmail, Hotmail, etc.) for more information.

Note: If you are using the Microsoft 365 option as the Email Statements Method in Tabs3 Billing Customization, the Microsoft 365 email address shown in Customization must have “Send of behalf of” permissions for the From Address (unless both addresses are the same), and both email addresses must have the same email domain. Contact your Exchange server administrator to grant this permission for the assigned email account.

Note: Changes in the From Address or From Name fields will not be reflected on email statements that have already been generated. You will need to generate the final bill again for these changes to take effect.

Reply To Address

When sending email statements via Outlook, the Reply To Address field will be dimmed and unavailable, with the text, "Provided by Outlook when statements are emailed." This is because the active Outlook profile is used as the Reply To Address when statements are sent via Outlook.

Maximum of 100 characters. When set up to send email statements via SMTP, the Reply To Address field is used to specify the email address to which you want the recipient to reply. For example, you may want the billing clerk's email address used for the Reply To Address.
