The Address field in the Contact file consists of a selector, an address block, and a Details button. The selector determines which address is displayed allowing you to view/edit a single address in the address block. The Details button allows you to view/edit the address in the Address Details window as separate fields including Address Lines 1-3, City, State, Zip, and Country.

The address allows you to store three separate addresses for each contact:

Business

Home

Other

For an address to be valid, the software must be able to determine the city, state, and zip code. If these fields cannot be determined, the Address Details window will be displayed for easy address entry.

An existing contact record can be used to create a new client record. When this occurs, the address displayed for the new client will be the Default Address from the contact record.

Default Address The Default Address check box determines which contact address is designated as the default address. The default address will be displayed for new client records and Additional Bill To records, although another address can be selected after the record is created. The default address in the address selector is displayed with an asterisk (*) to the right of the address label.

  • When an individual contact is entered without an organization in the Organization field, the address selector will default to Home.
  • When an organization contact, or an individual with an organization defined is entered, the address selector will default to Business.

The first defined address from the following list will be marked as the default address: 1) Business; 2) Home; and 3) Other. To change which address is the default address for new client and bill to records, select the address from the address selector and then select the Default Address check box. One default address must be selected. Selecting another address as the default address will automatically clear the check box for the prior default address.

For example, if Home and Other are currently storing complete addresses for a contact, Home will be selected as the default address until you select an alternative default address.
