focus
In Windows, the mouse or keyboard can be used to select elements within a window. When using a mouse, the focus is always where the pointer is clicked. However, when using the keyboard, focus is shown in a variety of ways. Focus can be indicated by an insertion point, highlighting or a dotted box. Different keystrokes may behave differently depending on where the focus is in a window. For example, when a Lookup window is displayed, pressing PgDn to display the next screen of records will not work unless focus is on the list portion of the window. As another example, when previewing a report, the cursor keystrokes work only when focus is on the body of the report.
