Copy (Ctrl+C) or

When selecting items from a list, you can copy the selected item(s) to the Windows clipboard using Ctrl+C or the button. You can also use the Copy All feature to copy all items from any list to the Windows clipboard using Ctrl+Alt+C.

When pasting the selection into a word processing program, such as Microsoft Word, headings will be bolded and background colors (if selected) will be applied to each row. Rich text field attributes such as bold and italics are retained. All data will be separated by tabs. You may need to use Paste Special to include the formatting. The example below is a fee entry from Tabs3 Billing, when pasted into Microsoft Word:

When pasting into a spreadsheet program, such as Microsoft Excel, each column will be separated into cells. Rich text field attributes such as bold and italics are not retained.

If the selection is pasted into any other program, the text will be separated by tabs, but without any formatting. The following example uses Windows Notepad as a destination:

Formatting Notes: When pasting information into a spreadsheet program, such as Microsoft Excel, you may notice that columns seems to be truncated or overlapped. This is due to the default cell width in these programs. Resizing the cell to allow all of the information to be displayed will correct this issue. In Excel, you can automatically resize the column to the width of the largest cell by double-clicking the separator between column headings. The Excel example above has been resized in this manner.

Note: Besides formatting and tab characters, only text information is copied. Any formulas or calculated fields, such as totals, will need to be manually updated if modified outside of the source software.

Note: A column is limited to 255 characters in width. When copying from a list window in Tabs3 Billing in PracticeMaster, the first 255 characters of Memo fields will be included, regardless of how many lines are shown in the list. When copying from a data entry list in Tabs3 Billing, Trust, AP, or GL, only the first line of the description is copied, up to a maximum of 255 characters.

Note: Although multiple records can be selected and copied while using list windows in Tabs3 Billing and PracticeMaster, when copying from a data entry list in Tabs3 Billing, Trust, AP, or GL, you can only copy a single record (Ctrl+C) or all records (Ctrl+Alt+C). You can also use the Print List toolbar button in the data entry lists (i.e., fees, vendors, trust transactions, etc.) to save the list to a file.

Note: When pasting to Word, information is pasted using RTF formatting. When pasting to Excel, information is pasted using text formatting. If you want RTF formatting pasted into Excel, you could paste the information into Word first, and then copy the information from Word and paste it into Excel.

Note: When pasting information from a list which contains a symbol, the image will be included in RTF-capable programs that allow embedded images, such as Microsoft Word. When pasting into other programs, these images will be removed and the column will instead have a number. This number is simply a reference number for the image, and is not used elsewhere. Examples of these images include check boxes (selected and cleared), email envelopes (unread, read, forwarded, and replied), eNote icons (unread, read, forwarded, and replied), etc.
