The base matter is the first matter in a numerical sequence for a client. For example, if you have clients 224.00, 224.01, and 224.02, then 224.00 is the base matter. As another example, if you have clients JONES.01, JONES.02, and JONES.05, then JONES.01 is the base matter. As another example, if you are using an Alpha Key Type and you have clients SMITH.99C, SMITH.2000D, and SMITH.98B, then SMITH.98B is the base matter.
